White Plains Linen, a family-owned Westchester-based linen supply company, recently partnered with New York Blood Center to host a community blood drive in front of their office in Peekskill, NY (4 John Walsh Blvd.).
After learning that New York Blood Center had declared an emergency blood shortage, White Plains Linen jumped at the chance collect donations to help replenish the blood supply. During the event, they received more than 24 blood donations from employees, as well as members of the Westchester community.
During the summer months, blood centers work to build up the community’s blood product supply, as it tends to diminish due to seasonal factors. New York Blood Center’s target goal is to maintain a safe seven-day supply of all blood types to continue to meet the needs of hospital patients and they are still urging people to donate. Local blood drives, like the one hosted by White Plains Linen, help solve the summer blood shortage and potentially save the lives of people in need.
