Catherine Marsh, Executive Director at the Westchester Community Foundation, was recently honored with the “Advocate for Justice” award by Legal Services of the Hudson Valley. The award ceremony took place at the annual “Equal Access to Justice” dinner on Thursday, March 26 at the Westchester Ritz-Carlton in White Plains.
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley honors individuals who go above and beyond to protect and provide equal access to justice to Hudson Valley communities and residents. The award was initiated in 2014 when State Representative, Amy Paulin, was recognized for her long-standing advocacy for women and children, and legislative accomplishments protecting survivors of domestic violence and trafficking.
Marsh joined the Westchester Community Foundation in 1999 and has since helped distribute more that $40 million to Westchester nonprofits. Permanent charitable funds have expanded to include those for health and human services and community development. In addition, the foundation now has endowed funds for programs to benefit two communities, Ossining and Tarrytown.
“It is an honor to receive an award from an agency I hold in such high esteem. Their work ensures that thousands of individuals and families receive essential legal services. Without access to legal services, the most vulnerable –the disabled child, the survivor of domestic violence or the homeless veteran –would be without recourse,” said Marsh.
