Buzz Creators Client, The Westchester Community Foundation (WCF,) recently kicked off celebrating 40 years of connecting philanthropists and local nonprofits on September 10, 2014 at The Science Barge (99 Dock St. Yonkers). It was a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about this organization that has helped to fund many of Westchester’s non-profits and to learn about the organization’s amazing history.
For example, Groundwork Hudson Valley (GHV) has been an exemplary community builder and partner of Westchester Community Foundation. The Science Barge is just one of Groundwork’s many projects. Since 2001, WCF has funded many programs bringing GHV’s missions of “Changing Places, Changing Lives” to life in Yonkers. Working under the shared belief that every community should have vibrant parks, playgrounds, healthy rivers and beautiful waterfronts, ECF has supported GHV’s projects with 11 grants. This support has allowed GHV to plant trees, renew parks, turn vacant land in poor neighborhoods into community gardens, bring farmers market to downtown Yonkers, and even unearth the Saw Mill River.
