Dr. Robert Hurley (a professor at Fordham University School of Business and the Director of The Consortium for Trustworthy Organizations at Fordham University) wrote a book entitled “The Decision to Trust”, which was recently selected as one of four books to receive a 2013 Book Award from Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit institutions of higher education.
Faculty and administrators from all 31 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Korea are eligible to apply for the $1,000 prizes, which are given each year in a category chosen by the honor society. This year’s category was “Professional Studies.” Professor Hurley’s book was honored alongside volumes by authors from Fairfield University, Saint Louis University and Santa Clara University.
This is not the first award that The Decision to Trust has received. Two years ago, The Washington Post placed it on a list of the eight top books on leadership. Professor Hurley has spoken to corporate leaders, academics and fellow researchers about the findings in his book, which offers insight into how organizations can cultivate trust and why this pursuit is so essential.
Dr. Hurley is an expert on how to build and repair trust with people, groups, organizations and large-scale systems. His work on trust has appeared in the Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, The Wall Street Journal, and the Financial Times. Roderick Kramer (Stanford) suggested that Dr. Hurley’s book The Decision to Trust is the book to read on how leaders can manage to create high trust organizations
