Forme Urgent Care and Wellness Center in White Plains is teaming up with New York Blood Center/Hudson Valley Blood Services to help supply blood to the Hudson Valley, Westchester, and NYC area hospitals by hosting a Blood Drive on January 31,2015 from 10am to 4pm.
New York Blood Center/Hudson Valley Blood Services is an independent, not-for-profit blood center and they have had the pleasure of working with organizations in the Hudson Valley since 1964. They face the challenge of supplying 448,000 units of blood to Hudson Valley, Westchester, and NYC area hospitals. They value the community minded organizations that partner with and help them achieve their mission and give cancer, leukemia, transplant, and trauma patients a fighting chance. They rely on constant sponsorships and donations throughout the year to meet the needs of hospitals; especially during the winter and summers months. They need all blood types and heavily rely on our RH- blood type (O-, B-, and A-) inventory. The ongoing hosting of blood drives will help replenish the blood supply and enable them to adequately meet the needs of area hospitals.
- All blood types are needed, but especially RH-, O-, B- and A- are at critical levels.
- During the winter months, New York Blood Center needs to continue ample levels of all blood types to meet the needs of hospital patients.
- In addition to the therapeutic needs for hospital patients, there is an ongoing need for an adequate supply of O-negative blood which can be transfused into anyone in an emergency when there’s no time for blood typing.
- There are many donors who may not have donated recently and you’re needed now more than ever—each of you can make a difference.
- General Eligibility: 16* – 76 years of age (*16 yr. olds need completed NYBC consent form), minimum 110 lbs, general good health.
- Maybe you’ve been deferred in the past—it may be a temporary deferral like an anemia count that changes from day to day. If it’s in your heart to give – please call 1-800-688-0900 to find out. Most medications do not prevent you from donating. Please don’t self-defer!
- Blood is perishable—it lasts only 42 days and during the critical months-possibly less.
- Inventory levels of many types are 2-3 days-it is a pipeline to constantly replenish!
- Remember for the day of the drive-Bring ID and Eat and hydrate well.
- Social Security Numbers are no longer required to donate blood.
- Donate with a friend!
