The desire to balance work and life is a struggle many women face today. However, thanks to a changing work environment, many businesses are now embracing a freelance economy, which allows women to have more work options, stability and long-term financial security.
Events, such as “Make Work Fit Life,” which premiered May 12, 2016 in Stamford, CT at the Stamford Marriott, are giving women tools and resources to find lucrative, resume-worthy work at every age and life stage. The “Make Work Fit Life” event was hosted by 9 Lives for Women, a career advisory firm for current and returning professionals. 9 Lives for Women’s mission is to keep women working. Over 200 women attended the event to network and listen to engaging panel discussions about how to make work fit your life from leading female professionals from companies such as AXA Advisors, LLC, Ernst & Young, Fidelity Investments, Cigna and Wells Fargo Advisors. Presentations included: “Fitting a Circle in a Square: How to Find Flexibility in a Full-Time Job,” “Are You Type E? How to Test Yourself for the Entrepreneurial Gene,” a special keynote presentation “Work Does Fit Life,” by I Know How She Does It author, Laura Vanderkam, and more.
“Make Work Fit Life” helped current and returning professional women with a wide range of career expertise assess which industries and job functions offer the most promise of flexible work. They also learned how to sell an inflexible boss on a flexible schedule, broach the flexibility issue in an interview and determine if they have the profile to be an entrepreneur. Eight boutique recruiting firms that specialize in finding women flexible work met with women throughout the event.
“The ‘Make Work Fit Life’ events show women that it is possible for women to blend career and family,” said Make Work Fit Live Events CEO, Kathryn Sollmann. “For most women—even those living in affluent communities—it makes sense to always keep your skills current and work in some way to fund a retirement that could last 30 years or more and all of life’s you never knows.”
