Local Cancer Patients Honored at Light The Night Walk Kickoff Party
on August 20th at Manhattanville Colleges Reid Castle

White Plains, NYThe Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter commenced its 2014 Light The Night® Walk fall campaign with a Kickoff Party on Wednesday, August 20th, 6:30pm-8:30pm at Manhattanville College, Reid Castle (2900 Purchase Street, Purchase, NY). Complete information on the Westchester Light The Night Walk and Kickoff Party can be found at www.lightthenight.org/ctwhv.

The Westchester Light The Night Kickoff Party gave participants, big, small, young, old, an opportunity to generate excitement about the fall Walk, get fundraising tips, and pick up fundraising supplies and materials. This event was also open to those interested in learning more about LLS and the Walk. Light The Night is a powerful and unique fundraising campaign that brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the disease. Participants carry illuminated lanterns – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer to shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

Each Light The Night Walk honors local blood cancer survivors and commemorates individuals who have lost their lives to these diseases. The 2014 Westchester Honored Patients include: six-year-old William Cervinka of Port Chester; seven-year-old Savanna DiFatta of New Rochelle; and Matthew MacKay of New Rochelle. This year’s Westchester Walk will also honor the memories of patients who lost their battles with blood cancer last year: Jeffrey Clark and Isabel da Silva Homem of Harrison.

Light The Night offers nearly 200 walks across North America each fall. In 2013 alone, Light The Night raised more than $58 million nationally and $815,000 just in the Westchester area.

This year, the Westchester Walk will be held on Saturday, November 1st at Playland Amusement Park, Rye, NY.
